Running Costs

Running Costs

When you own an electric van, you’ll never pay hefty petrol station prices. In fact, charging an electric van overnight is estimated to cost £8.35 to fully charge a flat battery. Whereas, you’d need to spend £22.00 on diesel to cover 100 miles. Switching to an electric van could reduce your vehicle running costs. Thus, saving you money and reducing your outgoings each month.

Also, if you’re registered as a company, you may be able to write off some of your household energy bills against VAT. This is because they energy you use to charge your electric van is a legitimate business cost. This will again keep running costs low and save you some pennies.

*Fewer parts

Electric vans have fewer bits to go wrong electric drive trains have far fewer moving parts). A regular diesel engine can contain hundreds of working, moving parts which means there’s lots that can go wrong and parts that need replacing over time,

An electric van, in comparison, has a lot less to wear out, so maintenance costs are much lower when compared to ICE Vehicles.

*Regenerative braking

One of the best things about electric vans is the regenerative braking system. It recycles energy that would usually be lost through heat and, instead, uses it to recharge the battery. It’s a great way to conserve energy and increase your EV range.

Braking becomes more efficient, placing less wear and tear on the brakes. Brake disks and pads still need maintaining but this needs to be done less often, saving you money.

*Cost efficiency

Research shows that an electric vehicle costs at least 30% less to service and maintain than a traditional vehicle (depending on the vehicle, of course).

One thing that is still comparable between traditional and electric vehicles, is tyre wear. Tyres will need to be changed regularly.

Service Costs

Electric vans are cheaper to maintain than diesel vans. This is because they have fewer moving parts. The engines are less prone to wear and tear, there are no pistons pumping up an down, no manual clutch to wear out and no oil to change. As a result, you can expect the servicing costs for electric vans to be cheaper. The motor in an electric van is used to recover energy each time you let up the accelerator, resulting in longer-lasting brake pads and discs.

"First time using Vansaway! I was in a bit of a panic as my van broke down and I was unable to fix it. My van is my livihood, so I looked into leasing and contract. I wish I done it sooner. I spoke to Jonathan as my first point of contact. I couldn't have got any luckier having him as my support. He was absolutely fantastic, he went above and beyond to help me. He was easy to contact and would always reply when I had any concerns or questions. His knowledge on all vehicles was impeccable, which made things easier. He listened to what I wanted and needed and explained everything thoroughly help me making the right choice in plan and kept in touch throughout the entire process! He knew I was in desperate need of a van and he did not disappoint and kept his word and I was able to get my new van delivered as soon as possible. Enjoying the drive. Its great about the perks involved in having a contract hire as well! Thank you so much for everything! Highly recommend, vans are just not how they use to be, so its great to have a brand new van along with the support of any engine faults things like that. A huge stress off my shoulders being sole trader."
